1) What QUIMERA Librarian Does
QUIMERA Librarian is a Mac app that connects to your QUIMERA over USB.
- Sound editing — edit the pedal's sound on your computer screen (EDIT page)
- Preset management — organize the 128 slots, back them up, and save presets to your computer (LIBRARY page)
- User tables / samples — import and export .wav files (STORAGE page)
- Firmware updates (FIRMWARE page)
Switch pages with the tabs at the top. Button and parameter names are the same as on the pedal.
2) Requirements and Installation
You will need:
- A QUIMERA (firmware 1.1 or later)
- A USB-C cable that supports data transfer (charge-only cables will not work)
- A Mac (macOS)
- The QUIMERA Librarian .dmg file from the download page
2-1. Installing
- Open the .dmg and drag QUIMERA Librarian into your Applications folder.
- Launch it from Applications.
No additional drivers are needed.
2-2. Updating the App
When a new version is available, a notice appears at launch. Press Update now to download it and restart automatically. If you press Later, UPDATE stays at the top of the screen. Click it to update at any time.
The current version is shown next to the logo in the top left corner.
3) Connecting the Pedal
- Power on the pedal and connect it to your Mac with the USB cable.
The pedal appears as a USB drive named "QUIMERA", and the app opens the STORAGE page. - To edit sounds or manage presets, press Connect at the top of the screen.
The app ejects the drive and connects to the pedal (this takes a few seconds). - When the dot at the top turns green and reads
connected, you are ready.
- To disconnect, press Disconnect. Unplugging the USB cable is also fine.
- If you see "Waiting for the pedal to respond…", just wait. The pedal is slow to answer, and the app will connect automatically.
- A pedal on firmware 1.0 cannot connect. When you plug it in, the FIRMWARE page opens so you can update it to 1.1 (7) FIRMWARE Page).
3-1. When the Screen Says "BYPASS"
If the pedal is bypassed when you connect, the EDIT page shows "BYPASS". Press a footswitch on the pedal or click L / C / R at the top of the screen to turn a preset on, and the EDIT page appears.
The EDIT page also pauses while the sample editing screen is open on the pedal (you cannot edit or save during this time). When you leave sample editing on the pedal, the app returns to normal automatically.
4) EDIT Page — Sound Editing
This page edits the sound currently on the pedal. Move a knob on the screen and the pedal's sound changes. Turn a knob on the pedal and the value on the screen follows.
4-1. Knobs
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Drag up or down | Change the value |
| Mouse wheel | Change one step at a time |
| Shift + drag | Fine adjustment |
| Double-click | Reset to center (PITCH and other ± parameters) |
- Values are shown the same way as on the pedal. Hover over a knob to see its current value.
- Turning SYNC on switches TIME / RATE to DIV, as on the pedal.
- Knob colors (red / yellow / green / blue) match the knobs on each page of the pedal.
- ⌘Z undoes, ⌘⇧Z redoes. Changes made with the pedal's own knobs are not included. Switching presets clears the history.
4-2. Saving Presets
Your edits are not stored in a slot until you save. Save with the buttons at the top of the screen.
- Overwrite — saves over the current slot.
- Save As… — choose a slot to save to. Press Save to Library at the bottom left to save to the library on your computer instead of a slot (it appears on the LIBRARY page).
- To rename a preset, click its name at the top of the screen. The new name is written to the pedal when you save.
- Set Default — resets the current sound to the default patch (same as UTIL → PRESET → SET DEFAULT on the pedal). Nothing is saved to a slot.
- ● unsaved appears when you have unsaved changes.
- When you are editing a sound loaded from the library, LIB appears to the left of the name. Overwrite then saves over the library file it came from. To save to a slot on the pedal, use Save As….
4-3. SCOPE / COLOR / FOOTSWITCH BANKS (top row)
- SCOPE — the same display as the pedal's screen. Click ⛶ or double-click for full screen (Esc to return). Nothing is shown while silent or bypassed.
- SCOPE MODE / COLOR — change the pedal's SCOPE MODE and COLOR here. For COLOR, click or drag on the gradient.
-
FOOTSWITCH BANKS — the presets assigned to the pedal's 3 banks (A / B / C) × L / C / R.
- Click a position (for example, BANK A's L) to pick a preset and assign it. Assignments are saved to the pedal right away.
- Press Audition in the list to hear a preset. Press Assign to assign it, or close the list to go back to where you were.
- The BANK buttons switch banks.
- Click the L / C / R heading to turn that footswitch on (same as stepping on it). Click again to bypass.
- The lights on the headings match the footswitch LEDs on the pedal. While bypassed, a red BYPASS is shown.
4-4. UTIL (TUNING / MIDI / GLOBAL / ASSIGNMENTS)
UTIL at the bottom right holds the same settings as the pedal's UTIL menu. When you change a value, the number of changes is shown. Press Apply to send them to the pedal, or Discard to cancel.
- ASSIGNMENTS — encoder / EXP pedal / MOD wheel assignments. Pick a target from the menu, or press Learn and move a knob on the pedal (or on the screen) to fill it in automatically.
-
GLOBAL — pedal-wide settings that are not part of any preset. They are saved to the pedal as soon as you press Apply.
- BYP WET OUT — set to MUTE to silence OUT while bypassed. For setups that use both DRY OUT and OUT.
- BANK SW — which two footswitches you press together to switch banks (L+R / L+C / C+R).
5) LIBRARY Page — Preset Management
5-1. SLOT MANAGER (slots ⇄ library)
The pedal's 128 slots are on the left, and the library on your computer is on the right. Select a row and use the buttons in the middle to copy.
- → Library — copies the slot's preset to the library on your computer.
- ← Slot — writes the library preset to the slot (this overwrites it; press again to confirm).
- Load (or double-click a row) — loads the preset onto the pedal without writing to a slot. Good for auditioning.
- + Save current — saves the current sound to the library.
- Rename / Duplicate / Delete… — rename, duplicate, or delete library files.
- Open folder — opens the library folder in Finder. Put .qps files in this folder and press Refresh to add them to the list.
- You can also drag and drop .qps files anywhere in the app window.
Use the search box to filter by name. Select a row to see its name, slot number, and bank assignments (BANK A–C) in the INFO panel on the right.
5-2. BACKUPS (all slots)
- Backup all slots — saves all 128 slots to your computer as a backup with the date and time (this takes a few dozen seconds).
- Restore… — writes slots back to the pedal from a backup, one slot at a time. Restore ALL… overwrites all 128 slots (press again to confirm).
6) STORAGE Page — User Tables / Samples
Manages the .wav files for WAVE 81–90 (USER TABLE) and 91–100 (USER SAMPLE).
- Press Enter storage mode (or put the pedal into storage mode on the pedal itself).
The pedal switches to a USB drive and the manager opens. Sound stops while in this mode. - Slots (TABLE 1–10 / SAMPLE 1–10) are on the left, and the library on your computer is on the right.
- ← Slot — converts the library .wav and places it in the slot (this replaces it; press again to confirm).
- → Library — copies the slot's .wav to the library on your computer.
- Delete… — empties the slot (press again to confirm).
- To add .wav files, put them in the folder opened by Open folder and press Refresh, or drag and drop them into the app window.
- When you are done, press Done — eject & connect.
The drive is ejected and the app reconnects automatically. Changes take effect on the pedal after the eject.
6-1. Supported .wav Files
- SAMPLE — any .wav works. Formats the pedal cannot read on its own (stereo, 24-bit, 96 kHz, and so on) are converted by the app to the pedal's format (mono 16-bit) when placed in a slot. This is also faster than importing on the pedal. Maximum length is about 7 seconds; anything longer is cut.
-
TABLE — wavetables (8,192 or 16,384 samples, or Serum format: 2,048 samples × N frames) are used as they are. Ordinary audio files can also be turned into tables. Choose the method from the menu at the top right of the LIBRARY column.
- Auto — wavetable-format files only (default)
- Slice 64 — cuts the whole file into 64 equal slices
- Pitch cycle — detects the pitch and cuts one cycle at a time (for pitched material; falls back to Slice if no pitch is found)
- The conversion applied to each file is shown in the list. Files that cannot be read are marked "rejected".
7) FIRMWARE Page — Firmware Updates
- Put the downloaded
.binin the folder opened by Open folder and press Refresh, or drag and drop it into the app window. - Connect the pedal as a USB drive (if the app is already connected, press Enter storage mode).
- Select the .bin in the list and press ← Firmware (press again to confirm). The transfer takes about a minute.
- Press Eject and unplug the USB cable. Leave the pedal running on its power supply only and wait.
- The pedal's screen shows UPDATING…. Do not turn off the power until the normal screen returns.
- The update will not start while the USB cable is connected.
- If the power is cut partway through, the update file stays on the pedal. Power it on again and the update restarts automatically.
- To cancel an update, press Clear… (deletes the .bin from the pedal's Firmware folder).
8) Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Connect fails | Reconnect the USB cable and press Connect again. |
| Connecting takes a long time | Right after waking from sleep, the pedal may be slow to respond. Wait while "Waiting for the pedal to respond…" is shown. |
| Nothing in SCOPE | Nothing is shown while silent or bypassed. Try playing something. |
| Overwrite is grayed out | The app does not know which slot you are editing. Recall a preset on the pedal or use Load, and Overwrite becomes available. |
| EDIT page stays on "BYPASS" | Press a footswitch or click L / C / R to turn a preset on. |
| Values move on their own | The screen is following what you do on the pedal. This is normal. |
| A .wav placed in STORAGE makes no sound | Changes take effect after you press Done to eject. Also check that the file is not marked "rejected" in the list. |
| Firmware update does not start | Unplug the USB cable, then power the pedal off and on again. |
